Cooking with Coco's

Seven years after leaving my career to start a family, I was keen to return to work and do something that I am passionate about. Before I had my children, I had studied for a City and Guilds in Advanced Professional Cookery at an Evening Class with Northampton College and was hoping to combine the skills I had learnt with a business. From a very young age I can remember spending hours looking through my mother's cookery books, and being transfixed by those with tempting looking cakes in them. Now I have a collection of over 200 of my own!
I have always loved involving my children in what I'm doing in the kitchen. We cook regularly together and enjoy ourselves enormously in the process. Sometimes they come in for a quick mix, or they help me make a whole dish. Sometimes they just sit and watch rather than actively participate. Cooking with your kids is quality family time and the added bonus is you get the wonderful bonding experience of sharing something delicious together at the end. However, having talked to lots of different parents it became apparent to me that many families don't spend time in this way - either because the parents don't have the confidence in their own skills to try or because they are too worried about the mess!
Each year, as my own children's birthdays have come round, I have looked for new ideas for their parties and then it suddenly occurred to me that with my experience of both food and children, I should start my own business to cater for this growing market. Hosting a kids cookery party is a great way to ensure a stress free party for the parents and a fun and educational couple of hours for the kids. I am CRB checked, fully insured and hold a City and Guilds Diploma with Distinction in the Theory and Practice of Advanced Professional Cookery. I am registered as a food business with Northants County Council and have been awarded the highest 5 * hygiene rating from them. I also achieved a Level 2 diploma in Food Safety in 2013.
